All right, you have decided you want to wear a King Tut inspired costume for Halloween. How exactly would you go about doing that from a historical point of view? Typically the Egyptian climate is pretty dry and is also usually fairly hot so the clothing people wore needed to be light in weight and color too.

Almost all clothing was made from a type of linen during his time. Including, for the Egyptians of King Tut’s time, very little sewing – the fabric was usually just draped around the body. And believe it or not, it seems that the higher you were up the status ladder at that time, the more clothing you wore. So the poor people of the time probably wore very little.

So if I had a son that wanted to wear a boy King Tut costume for Halloween here’s what I would do. First of all, I would look for an old white sheet to use as the main body for the costume. Now you can go about this in several ways – you could drape it around the body in kind of a toga style and tie it with a sash, or if you really wanted to get a carried away and do a bit of sewing, then you could also cut the sheet and create costume pieces such as the kilt, no guys – these are not men’s skirts, a cape, or maybe even a full body tunic.

Now if I wanted to dress this up a bit there were several things I could do and here are a few of them. First of all I have a little bit of fabric around the house that is kind of a gold metallic color that I could use to tie into a sash around his waist a and if there’s enough of it to use I could even make a tape as well.

And I have some old costume jewelry that I can put on them too such as old gold bracelets and maybe I could use as armbands. If I wanted to add some more to the costume I could also create a gold caller around the shoulders out of the gold fabric that I have on hand, and maybe even added some gold beads to the sash is tied to his waist to add a more royal look.

For footwear he could easily wear his own summer sandals to complete the look. And if worse came to worse, and we couldn’t find the sandals he could always go barefoot too depending on where we were going while he was dressed in his Halloween costume.

But what about the head piece you might ask? You can’t really be King Tut without that one-of-a-kind head wear. Well, I do have a striped towel that I will be turning into King Tuts headpiece for the night. Since I wanted it to look very loose I will allow most of the towel to merely hang from the sides and drape down as it normally while tying back a portion in the front to keep the towel out of my son’s face. And to finish it off I have found the perfect gold headband that I will add to the towel to even make it look more regal than it already does.

Lastly, what King would be a King without his royal staff? So we will be adding a tall walking stick to my sons costume as a final accessory. And if he wanted to he could even wrap it in tinfoil or spray paint it with gold paint to make it look like it was made from metal.

So that’s it, my son now has his very own boy King Tut costume, easily made from several materials we already had on hand. And since the costume is fairly loose it should be easier for him to get around and about why we are out trick-or-treating. So not only will he be able to have fun and get lots of Halloween candy but he will get to dress up as one of his favorite Kings of all time, all dressed up in his very own King Tut costume.

King Tut Costumes for Kids

As many of us know, children have their own ideas about what makes a great costume. Last Halloween after exhausting all the usual costume ideas, my son decided, what he would like to be “more than anything in the world” was young King Tut! He wanted King Tut Costumes for Kids. I have to admit I was stunned.

So I pulled out the storage bins of old costume ideas from years in the past and realized I had nothing. What’s a mom to do? That’s when I realized it didn’t have to be that difficult so I gathered some household items that weren’t being used anymore and went to work on a low cost version of the ancient garb of the kings.

The first thing I got out was an old white bed sheet. I suppose a spare piece of cloth would also work fine, it just needs to long enough to go from the child’s shoulders to the ground, both in the front and back. First for this particular King Tut Costumes for Kids I cut out a hole, big enough for my son’s head, and then trimmed the fabric so it hung over him, with his arms outstretched like a towel over a towel rack.

Each end of the fabric ended just past his shoulders on both sides, as his head poked through the hole. Under each of his arms there was a gap so I had him wear an old t-shirt and a pair of white pants so he was not exposed when he lifted his arms. I then took the garment off and laid the cloth down on the ground. It looked like a long piece of cloth about 8 foot by 2 feet, with a hole directly in the center.

I made a cut from the hole down on one of the longer 4 foot sides – this would later be the opening on the front of this King Tut Costume for Kids. I put this back onto my son and used an old robe belt to cinch up the middle. The final product looked a little like a sheepherder, so I knew we had more work to do.

Next we worked on his head piece. For this I took an old base ball cap, some hot glue and a long piece of blue and gold striped cloth. We look at some old diagrams of the pharaohs’ headdress and selected a style worn by King Tut. We then flipped the baseball cap around and hot glued the cloth to the underside so it wrapped over his head like a scarf but the hat was not visible. The bill of the hat faced the back. As a final finishing touch we attached the head of a plastic snake to the front, after we painted it gold of course!

Finally, it was all about the staff. We used an old broom handle and took some construction paper, twisted it and taped it in a upside down teardrop shape on the top. We sprayed the whole thing gold and added a touch of the stripped cloth to the area he would hold on to it, for extra comfort! And presto! We had an Egyptian King Tut costume! The perfect King Tut Costumes for Kids of any age!

A great costume for a boy on halloween could be an Egyptian ruler such as King Tut.

A similar costume could be made for a girl too with just a few minor alterations. All you need is some fabric, a pair of old sandals, some wide gold lacing, gold spray paint, and a plastic vine with flowers.

Here’s how I made a kids King Tut costume for my own kids for Halloween. Start with something in a deep rich red, purple, or dark blue. This can be a sheet, an old curtain, new material, or even a repurposed dress. You need a lot as it will be a long robe. If you’re using fabric, double the fabric, marking the center of the fold. Cut a small hole, just large enough to go over the head of the person wearing it.

You can hem this hole by sewing or gluing, or just leave the raw edge. It’s only one night, after all. You could also make a smaller hole, and then a small slit down the front. Then sew or glue the sides together, leaving about six inches at the top for the arms to go through. If you wanted, a terrycloth robe would save you some work for your kids King Tut costume, but it needs to close in the front in some way. This could be pinned.

Next you need a white sheet or piece of fabric, somewhat smaller and shorter than the colored piece. Do the same steps with the white, but do make the cut down the front. This cut should go all the way down so it is open and the colored robe shows through. Apply glue and gold glitter in a fancy pattern down the front of each robe on this section of your homemade kids King Tut costume.

Use wide gold lace or rickrack to trim the edges and hems. Get lots of this, as it is also used for the legs. I used 5/8″ wide flat lacing. I used the same lacing to make a belt for the colored robe too. Use more than you need and tie it, leaving the ends to hang loose for a more authentic look.

Spray paint your kids King Tut costume sandals and the plastic vine, allowing plenty of time to dry. For the feet take two or three yards of the lacing and thread it through a sandal and then center. Do this loosely before you cut it to make sure there is enough on each side. A matching costume can be made for a girl by simply using narrower lace and a smaller vine.

Attach it with glue or tie it securely. After the shoe is on the foot, use the two sides of the lacing to criss-cross around the ankle and then on up the leg, going all the way to the base of the knee, leaving a couple inches between each cross. Tie securely, and repeat for the other foot.

Your kids King Tut costumes colored robe should be long enough to cover this so go ahead and tie in a bow so they’re easy to remove. You could also center the lace under the arch of the foot and not attach it to the sandal but that may cause slight discomfort or tickling!

Measure the intended child’s head, and then cut the vine an inch longer. Use the extra inch to hold the two ends together and tie them securely in a circle. This is the crown. You could also make a fancier crown with cardboard and spray paint it gold. Glue on some jewels if you like.

Add some large gold chains or chunky jewelry to your childs costume and your kids King Tut costume is ready to rule! All the neighborhood kids will be soooo jealous this Halloween you can bet!

Do you want to wear a King Tut Plus Size Costume this Halloween? You can dress as King Tut in at least two ways that I can think of right off the bat. First, it just depends on just how much work you want to put into your halloween costume.

The first, and the simplest King Tut Costume, involves wearing one of those bald wigs. I am talking about the things you wear over your head, which cover your hair, and make you seem totally bald. The next thing is to use black eyeliner and extend it along the sides of the eye.

For this King Tut outfit, you need to wear a one piece tunic, a golden belt and leather slippers. However, if you choose to dress this way and don’t go any further, most people wouldn’t even know that you are dressed as King Tut and would probably mistake you for a slave of that era.

As for the main King Tut Costume guys, wear a white tunic and dress it up with a few more accessories – different kinds of jewelry and belts would do fine. A golden belt tied around your waist or a multicolored egyptian belt or collar would be the perfect addition to any King Tut costume.

The next method is to dress up as a King Tut in the costume of a King Tut mummy. Very unique! And if you were going to be a King Tut mummy you might want to make your outfit look more mummy like by wrapping yourself up in loose bands of fabric over your white tunic (just to make sure that you don’t expose too much of yourself by mistake).

And you’ll probably want to add a few accessories to dress up your King Tut Plus Size Costume too. The King Tut artifact that is most well known is the actual King Tut mask. The real mask is golden and black in color and has a long goatee. People would instantly realize that you are dressed as King Tut if you wore something to this. And you can easily purchase this headpiece from almost any costume store near you. Just ask for the King Tut headpiece.

For the footwear, you can choose to wear plain leather sandals or go for the roman type shoes. Roman shoes are the ones which are netted and lace up to your knees. Roman shoes are easily available since many women wear them even today on a daily basis too. However, choose sandals that are comfortable to wear. Either type would make a good choice so I would suggest that you go for leather flip flop type sandals if you don’t already own a pair of the roman type shoes.

And there are certain artifacts which you could carry with you to add to your King Tut costume to make it even more authentic. One you might want to check into is an Egyptian sacrificial dagger.

But if you decide to carry this I would suggest you carry the dagger with great care so that you don’t accidentally stab someone with it. It is uniquely shaped – kind of like a cross with dual wavy horns near the top. It is golden in color with blue gems. You could buy this in the metallic, plastic finish and believe me it will certainly grab the attention of all the people at the Halloween parties you attend.

Don’t want to carry a dagger all night but would like some kind of egyptian artifact to use with your King Tut Plus Size costume? Then how about a staff? These are also often seen carried by the royalty of this age and are very attention grabbing. In a way it may be much lighter to carry than a dagger but a staff is much, much longer in length than the dagger. But they both look equally good.

All right now, we’re getting to the end. As for the facial makeup, powder your face to even out your complexion and then apply a little red colored rouge. Do not forget to use black eyeliner to outline your eyes, darken your eyebrows, eyelashes and also to extend it to the corner of your eyes.

And there, you go – you are good to go and ready to attend the Halloween party of your choice dressed as the man himself, King Tut. Overall, a pretty easy costume to dress up in but also one of the most recognizeable Halloween costumes on the planet. Have fun dressed up in your King Tut Plus Size costume and happy halloween.

Have you ever wondered how to make a King Tut costume for Halloween other some other event? Actually, there are at least three ways I can think of to dress up as King Tut that I’ll share here with you now.

The first one is the simplest of all the methods and involves wearing eyeliner along the sides of the eyes and tapering it at off the ends. You could purchase of one those bald head patches that you see in stores too – you know, the ones that you can wear and it seems as if you are now totally bald.

King Tut had a nice complexion, I’ll bet, so you’ll want to make sure that you put quite a bit of makeup on to even out your complexion. And as for the dress, it could be as simple as a long overflowing white colored shirt held by a colored belt around the waist. And as for the footwear, if you are making your own King Tut costume, you can wear leather sandals which are available at almost any shoe store.

Now this method of dressing may be the simplest, but it’s not the best by any means. If you don’t pay anymore more attention to detail than this most people might not even realize that you are supposed to be dressed up as King Tut – in fact, they may even think you’re a slave or something.

The second way to make a King Tut costume requires a lot more effort and also requires you to purchase certain artifacts. The first thing that you will have to purchase is a King Tut mask, or at least a King Tut head dress. His iconic mask is the one thing that is most popular amongst people and it will make people instantly know that you are dressed up as King Tut. You can always go to a costume store and ask for a King Tut mask. It is available at almost every costume rental store, online and off.

There are at least two styles of headdress that you have an option to buy. One is the Egyptian mask which looks more like a half mask you’d wear at at Mardi Gras celebration. Now this one can be used but I still wouldn’t recommend it even though many people go for this option if you really want to look the part of King Tut. The other option is the King Tut headpiece with the overflowing sides down over your shoulders, more in style like that the Bedouins wear or like the one that is often seen in many of the King Tut memorial shows that are touring the world now.

Sometimes you also get the King Tut headdress along with the cap attached with the mask. So if you have the option of a mask with an attached headpiece and one without, then I would certainly go for the one without the face mask. This makes your King Tut costume much more authentic and also gives it a more realistic look.

For the clothes, you may wear a long shirt that comes down to your knees or choose a floor length one if you like and then hold it with a belt around your waist. The shirt can be white in color and the belt a golden color – metallic would be a nice touch. Instead of a belt you can also just use a long ribbon to tie around the waist. As for the footwear, wear leather sandals or one of those tall laced shoes that many european women wear. Your main task of dressing up in a King Tut Costume is now almost over.

You can also carry some kind of artifact such as a wooden staff with an Egyptian cross or a snake at the top. If you remember to buy one that is made of plastic it will be cheaper and not so heavy to carry too. You can easily ask for “King Tut staff made of plastic” at any costume store. That’s it – you are now done.

Lastly, let me quickly tell you how I dressed up last Halloween in my own King Tut Costume before we close. Now my King Tut Costume was a little different from the second method as discussed above. Instead of the typical iconic King Tut mask, I used a mummy mask but the overall look remained the same – except for the mask.

This one little change to my King Tut Costume not only made people instantly guess that I was dressed as King Tut but it was also creepy and showed a little more imagination on my part (since I didn’t want to dress up exactly as every other King Tut on the block did).

Believe it or not, I also won the prize last Halloween for the best costume at the costume party I went to.
